Catterick Racecourse, in collaboration with Racing Welfare, will celebrate the sport’s rich heritage with Racing Reminiscence Day on Monday 11 May, set against the backdrop of a thrilling Flat racing fixture.
Falling within Mental Health Awareness Week (11–17 May), Racing Reminiscence Day is inspired by Racing Welfare’s regular coffee mornings for retired racing industry beneficiaries—gatherings that provide a welcoming space for storytelling, shared memories, and companionship. The raceday event brings this initiative trackside, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history of Catterick Racecourse and connect through a shared love of racing.
Reminiscence is known to be beneficial to people experiencing dementia and this year’s event will also feature Dementia Forward, the leading dementia charity for York and North Yorkshire. They provide support, advice and information to anybody affected by dementia across the county.
Emma Stevenson, General Commercial Manager at Catterick Racecourse, said: “Racing Reminiscence Day is a wonderful way to bring people together through shared memories of the sport we love. Working with Racing Welfare allows us to celebrate Catterick’s history while also shining a light on how reminiscing and connection can support positive mental health and wellbeing – something that feels particularly meaningful during Mental Health Awareness Week.”
Throughout the raceday, visitors can enjoy a special display of memorabilia and personal stories, located at the main entrance and the Racing Welfare and Dementia Forward stands. The Racing Welfare team will be on hand to chat over a coffee and share insights into their work. Racegoers can also enter a prize draw to win a pair of Grandstand & Paddock tickets to a 2026 Catterick raceday by taking part in the Racing Welfare quiz.
Gail Burton-Pye, Welfare Officer at Racing Welfare, said: “We’re very grateful to be invited back by Catterick Racecourse to take part in this amazing initiative. Reminiscence days are so important in bringing people together, sparking meaningful memories, and having a lasting positive impact on wellbeing. It also fits well being on the first day of Mental Health Awareness Week and its theme of “Action,” focusing on taking practical steps to improve mental wellbeing for ourselves, others, and the wider community.”
The day's racing will feature six races, with the first race at 2:30pm and the last scheduled for 5:00pm. Gates will open to the public at 12 noon.
Tickets and hospitality packages are available to book either online or over the phone, with admission starting at just £8 in advance and complimentary racecards available on arrival for all racegoers.
Advanced and group booking discounts are available until midnight on 9th May. Under 18’s accompanied by an adult are admitted free of charge, and concessions are available for racegoers aged 65+, students, and military personnel.
