Catterick Racecourse, in collaboration with Racing Welfare, will celebrate the sport’s rich heritage with Racing Reminiscence Day on Monday 12 May, set against the backdrop of a thrilling Flat racing fixture.
Racing Reminiscence Day is inspired by Racing Welfare’s regular coffee mornings for retired racing industry beneficiaries—gatherings that provide a welcoming space for storytelling, shared memories, and companionship. The raceday event brings this initiative trackside, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the history of Catterick Racecourse and connect through a shared love of racing.
This year’s event is especially timely, coinciding with Mental Health Awareness Week (12–18 May), which centres on the theme of Community—a perfect match for the day’s focus on connection, memory, and wellbeing.
Emma Stevenson, General Commercial Manager at Catterick Racecourse said: “We’re delighted to once again partner with Racing Welfare to bring Racing Reminiscence Day to life. It’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate racing’s legacy, enjoy listening to memories from our racegoers, and raise awareness about the powerful role reminiscence can play in supporting mental health and wellbeing.”
Throughout the raceday, visitors can enjoy a special display of racing memorabilia and personal stories, located at the main entrance and the Racing Welfare stand near the Parade Ring. The Racing Welfare team will be on hand to chat over a coffee and share insights into their work. Racegoers can also enter a prize draw to win a pair of Grandstand & Paddock tickets to a 2025 Catterick raceday by taking part in the Racing Welfare quiz.
In addition, the racecourse is delighted to be working with Franklyn Care Group, kind sponsors of the Hillcrest Who Cares Wins Handicap. Some of the residents from Hillcrest, a residential home – located in Catterick Garrison – for those living with dementia, will be attending the raceday to take part in the reminiscence day activities, help choose the best turned out horse ahead of their race and present the prize to winning connections.
The day's racing will feature seven races, with the first race at 1:47pm and the last scheduled for 4:47pm. Gates open at 12 noon, with a free shuttle bus running from Richmond Market Place starting one hour before the first race.
Tickets and hospitality packages are available to book either online or over the phone, with admission starting at just £8 in advance and complimentary racecards available on arrival for all racegoers.
Advanced and group booking discounts are available until midnight on 10th May. Under 18’s accompanied by an adult are admitted free of charge, and concessions are available for racegoers aged 65+, students, and military personnel.
